The work of Christian self-development coach Mark Queppet has been instrumental in helping me get out of the tailspin of detrimental bad habits that I was trapped in for the last five or more years. Looking back, it is not hard to see how chronic internet abuse, phone scrolling, video gaming, and a host of other vices exacerbated my state of arrested development throughout high school. It was only through Queppet’s flagship program, The Metascript Method, that real and permanent progress was made in eliminating these bad habits. There is still much work to be done, but with consistent engagement with metascripting, victory is only a matter of time. It is time to share this information with everyone so they can also reap the benefits. It will be useful for every type of person, from the highly disciplined and overachieving ALPHA, to the destitute and underperforming OMEGA. While much has been written about the means and importance of habit change, no other system is nearly as effective as Queppet’s metascripting.
Introduction to Metascripting
Bad habits can be so persistent that it feels like they are simply apart of our very identity. How many of you have tried to squash a bad behavior or impulse only to have it reappear a day, a week, month, or year later? Old habits die hard, some much more than others. It can feel like you are destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. It is no wonder so many are skeptical about self-help and self-development speakers who promise radical change. How can we turn our entire lives around when still shackled by that vice which seems like it should be so easy to quit?
During his earlier years as a pornography recovery coach, Queppet discovered just how difficult it was for men to quit this nasty vice. The pornography industry is estimated to be worth thirteen billion dollars in the United States alone and it has only gotten more wealthy as more and more people are exposed at younger ages through the internet. Queppet calls quitting porn a “rite of passage” for the modern man because it is so prolific.
There truly has never been a vice as confounding internet porn. It is a supernormal stimulus that targets one of man’s most potent urges: sexuality. For lower status men, it can become a way to momentarily transcend their sexual failures, which leads to progressively more dependency. Instead of using their sexual angst as motivation to connect with real women, many men today simply surrender to the vivid fantasies provided at the touch of a finger by any device with a screen and internet connection. The consequences of habitual porn use include: erectile dysfunction, lessened concentration, sexual anxiety, and a general brain dysfunction called hypofrontality. Because it is so powerful and easily accessible, most men will have no luck in trying to remove this cancerous habit from their life.
Queppet, frustrated with the progress of some of his clients in porn recovery, tried something brand new. He told them to write down every reason they why were not going to use porn that day. Somehow, this method was getting results when not much else seemed to work. It could shift the motivations of these difficult clients like nothing else could. Queppet continued to develop on this promising discovery until it became a fully fledged system. With the help of metascripting, many men have drastically improved their lives by getting rid of the vices that have been holding them back - especially porn.

Metascripting Overview
Metascripting is essentially a form of focused journaling that helps you to achieve rapid behavior modification. It accomplishes this by altering your very mentality around the bad habit at the conviction level. When you have succesfully used metascripting to tackle a bad habit, you will see the poor behavior for what it actually was: self-harm. It will feel like a veil has been lifted off your eyes. Avoiding the bad habit will actually begin to feel easy.
The metascript method contains three main types of journal entries:
Retroactive: helps you to discover what caused you to relapse into the bad habit
Responsive: helps you to avoid relapse in the moment
Preemptive: helps you to avoid relapse in the future
Each entry operates off the same simple formula of questions: “What do I want?” “How can I win?” “Who will I be?”
There is incredible nuance to each of these questions, and each holds a key to permanently shifting your mentality. For example, when retroactive and preemptive entries are used in tandem, they create a powerful loop that helps you to discover the patterns of your bad habits and gives you the power to avoid them in the future.
It should be noted that bad habits are often caused by a tight web of interconnected dysfunctions and unfulfilled desires. Handling all of these can be extremely difficult. Metascripting will help you to unveil that web and identify the highest-leverage actions you can take to alleviate the pressure.
Many self-development systems are more focused on forcing yourself to act against your will. Metascripting makes your actions flow naturally, free, and easily, without undignified browbeating or inneffective carrot and stick tactics. The war against yourself can end, and the war for yourself can truly begin.

Metascripting and OMEGA
Men with the OMEGA profile often come with much more than social indeptitude. They are usually accompanied by a myriad of basic life failures such as poor hygiene, diet, sleep, and productivity. In my experience and observations, the root of these issues is emotional disintegration. The intellectual faculties cannot communicate with the instinct and emotions and mass dysfunction is the result. For example, whenever I fall back into a video game binge, my intellect knows it is wrong to do so, however, the other half of me which is emotional disagrees. Common wisdom would tell me that the solution is to just beat my feelings down until they become numb, but this never works for very long. Moreover, it inculcates an abusive and undignified mentality which seems utterly low-status to me.
Queppet calls the dilemma the “split-mind problem”. It happens anytime our emotional faculties disagree with our intellectual faculties and vice-versa. The emotional faculties generally win out for the simple reason that they control our energy while our intellect does not. We are not robots or emotionless aliens so we cannot simply decide to mechanically allocate motivating neurochemicals as our logic sees fit. The solution is not for one side to dominate the other but for both sides to come together in true compromise. Imagine how much more powerful you would be if you did what you know you should be doing and actually wanted to do it with every fibre of your being. That is the power of metascripting.
Some of my successes with metascripting so far:
Eliminated phone scrolling in bed
Eliminated phone scrolling in general
Eliminated watching too many videos on phone
Eliminated constantly checking notifications on phone
Recently I have moved on to tackling my issues with video games and look forward to updating everyone on my progress.
Excellent post. Thanks for sharing and explaining this method.
